Think Long-Term
We believe lasting change for children and families doesn't come from quick fixes and top-down solutions. It comes from relationships - people showing up with consistency, honesty, and care.

James arrived at Camp Hope unsure but open to trying something new. Like so many other campers, he had faced challenges no child should have to endure. But in those five days, he found a community that believed in him. Over the following years, James built friendships and strength, growing in confidence and tackling difficult conversations about resilience and healing. Now, he returns to Camp Hope as a counselor, ready to encourage younger campers that healing and hope are possible for them, too. This is what Camp Hope is all about: breaking cycles and building better futures for generations of kids.

Camp Hope
Building confidence and life skills for youth
Sixteen-year-old Joseph lived in group home for several years. His search for a foster family led to four scheduled meetings, but not one family showed up, leading him to struggle (understandably) with feeling unwanted or forgotten. At the Redding Teen Center, Joseph can show up on his hardest days and feel seen, supported, and safe - and connect with mentors who remind him of his strengths, and help him believe in his future, even when it’s hard to see it himself. Most importantly, they can remind him that he is not alone - that someone cares about what he’s going through. Joseph’s journey is still unfolding, but he’s not walking it alone. The stability of the Teen Center is helping him grow stronger, more confident, and more prepared for his next chapter.

Redding Teen Center
A safe, encouraging community-building space for teens
When Luna walked through the doors of our then-new Teen Center, she was struggling in many areas - school, friendship, belonging - but from day one, she discovered a safe, welcoming space filled with support, encouragement, and opportunities. Over time, she built meaningful friendships, found encouraging mentors, and grew in confidence, leading her to land her very first job. On the heels of that success, she stepped into a leadership role in our Make a Difference club, which empowers teens to create positive community change. Luna’s journey is exactly what the Teen Center is all about. We are so proud of her!

A safe, encouraging community-building space for teens
From one of our Parent Partners, (edited for length): “When my client first came to Raising Shasta, she was living in uninhabitable conditions in her apartment. Having undergone severe domestic violence, she experienced intense anxiety, and had a hard time talking to people or getting the things she needed. She felt hopeless and anxious and was looking for support and a safe path forward for herself and her family. Together, we set up the goal of helping her find safe, stable housing. I assisted with phone calls to legal services, completing her HUD application and applying for apartments. We helped her secure food assistance, furniture, and access to therapy and ultimately found brand new housing for her. She is now settled into her new home, creating a safe, comfortable space for her and her children. She has shared that she feels extremely happy and accomplished knowing she was able to secure a safe place where her family can feel content.”

Peer mentorship for parents

Anderson Teen Center
